Films "Kill Your Darlings" and "Lovelace" were acquired for distribution on Jan.22 at the Sundance Film Festival.
Sony Pictures Classics acquired the United States distribution rights for "Kill Your Darlings" starring Daniel Radcliffe, Ben Foster and Dane Dehaan. The film is directed by Joseph Krokidas and tells the true story of a murder that took place in and around the tight-knit group of young men at Columbia University in 1944. This group of young men would eventually become the Beats. The film also stars Elizabeth Olsen and Michael C. Hall.
"Darlings" made headlines after its premiere due to the explicit homosexual sex scenes Harry Potter star Radcliffe is portrayed in and the use of drugs and alcohol. The film was written by Austin Bunn and Krodikas and was produced by Michael Benaroya, Christine Vachon, Rose Ganguzza and Krokidas."Kill Your Darlings" marks the second film Sony Classics Pictures picks up at the Festival. The company acquired "Austenland" on Monday. Sony plans to release "Darlings" in the fall and is already preparing an awards campaign.
Also landing a distributor was the Amanda Seyfried starrer "Lovelace." The film tells the story of adult film star Linda Lovelace and her abusive husband Chuck Traynor. Radius-TWC picked up the film for $3 million and included a deal for both theatrical and VOD. The film will be released in the fall.
