The Academy Awards announced via Twitter that singer Adele will be performing at the Oscars.
Adele will be performing her Oscar nominated song "Skyfall" and is widely considered the front-runner to win the Best Song Oscar. The performance would mark the first time the singer performs live in 12 months; her last vocal appearance came in 2012 at the Brit Awards.
The Academy will be celebrating James Bond's 50th anniversary but it is not clear if Adele will perform during the tribute. It is also unclear if the other four nominated songs will be performed by their respective singers. The singers for the nominated songs include Norah Jones ("Ted"), Scarlet Johansson ("Chasing Ice"), Hugh Jackman ("Les Miserables") and Bombay Jayashri ("Life of Pi").
Adele has recently given birth to her first child but has failed to give the boy's name. She recently won the Best Song Golden Globe for "Skyfall" and stated, "It's very strange to be here, thank you so much for letting me be a part of your world for a night, it's amazing."
Adele recorded the song with producer Paul Epworth who produced her album "21."
"Skyfall" is directed by Sam Mendes and is currently in theaters. The film has become the highest grossing Bond movie of all time.
