The second inauguration of President Barack Obama was still watched by millions yet down significantly compared to his 2009 inaugurations.
When it comes to the cable news networks, it was the Cable New Network (CNN) that was ranked number one.
According to Fast Nationals data from Nielsen, via TVNewser, CNN was the most watched cable news network when President Obama took the oath between 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and during primetime.
Behind CNN was MSNBC followed by the Fox News Channel (FNC).
From 11:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.:
CNN: 3.136m total viewers, 1.107m adults ages 25-54
MSNBC: 2.273m total viewers, 706k adults ages 25-54
FNC: 1.316m total viewers, 294k adults ages 25-54
During primetime, about 3.6 million total viewers watched President Obama and the First Lady dance to Jennifer Hudson's rendition of Al Green's "I'm Still In Love With You."
Unlike the daytime ratings, FNC went up to second place, followed by MSNBC.
Primetime:
CNN: 3.573m total viewers, 1.266 adults 25-54
FNC: 1.666m total viewers, 254k adults 25-54
MSNBC: 1.365m total viewers, 456k adults 25-54
In comparison to the 2009 inauguration, approximately 8.5 million viewers watched President Obama take the oath, while MSNBC was in third place with about five million less viewers.
2009 Total Viewers from 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.:
CNN: 8,496,504 total viewers
FNC: 5,487,901 total viewers
MSNBC: 3,075,589 total viewers
In comparison to 2009 and 2013 inaugurations, television ratings were down by two to seven million viewers.
As for the broadcast networks of ABC, CBS, and NBC, it was the peacock network that topped the inauguration coverage, followed by ABC and CBS.
NBC: 5.08 million total viewers, 1.4 rating A25-54
ABC: 4.57 million total viewers, 1.1 rating A25-54
*CBS: 3.67 million total viewers, 1.0 rating A25-54
