The Sandy Hook saga continues.

As officials wonder whether to demolish the building where 20 schoolchildren and 6 teachers were murdered, Internet conspiracy theorists unable to deal with reality insist the government is covering up a hoax.

The federal government definitely isn't as transparent as it could be, but there are plenty of photos and forensic evidence and witnesses. Journalists from across the country descended on Newtown, Conn., and none of them reported anything more than a horrific and senseless tragedy.

Proponents are being called "Sandy Hook Truthers," a reference to conspiracy theorist "9/11 Truthers" who believe the U.S. government was responsible for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center, claims that have no basis in fact.

Gene Rosen, a Newtown, Conn. resident who lives near the school and took in six terrified children who had escaped from the shooting, has been accused of being a paid actor. The harassment has taken its toll on Rosen, who admits he put himself in the spotlight when he spoke out after the shootings. But the normally calm 69-year-old gets frustrated when he thinks of people who minimize or dismiss the tragedy.

This is after researchers at Snopes meticulously parsed both the hoax and allegations made against Rosen.

"The information presented in that video was a mixture of misinformation, innuendo, and subjective interpretation," said Snopes.

The Obama administration has responded to the shooting by calling for tougher restrictions on firearms. Because of that, gun stores are reporting shortages of firearms as sales increase ahead of impending gun control legislation working its way through Congress.

Ironically, the Bushmaster .223 semiautomatic rifle is especially popular -- the kind of gun used by the killer in the Sandy Hook shootings.

Some parents are upset by what the see as lax security at schools. A mother in northern Florida is paying $12,000 to hire an armed security guard for her child's school. Though that might be the best idea. Last week, a firearms instructor hired as a security guard at a Michigan charter school left an unattended gun in a restroom at the school.
