A day at the beach almost turned into a terrifying nightmare when a shark swam toward children near the shore in Australia. While most people ran for cover, a 62-year-old grandfather heroically wrestled with the shark in the water with his bare hands.
An Australian news crew was coincidentally filming at the Queensland's Sunshine Coast beach and caught the incident on camera. The grandpa, a tourist from Great Britain named Paul Marshallsea of Wales, abruptly jumped in the water after hearing people scream out "shark." He grabbed the 6-and-a-half-foot dusky shark by the tail and pulled it away from the young children who were nearby. The shark fought back during the brawl and almost bit Marshallsea's leg. "When I got the shark to just over knee deep he turned on me and just missed me with a bite," said Marshallsea. "The shark nearly took my leg off in a split second -- it was that quick," he added.
He said he was following his instincts when he decided to wrestle with the sea beast.
"My instincts took over and I just grabbed the shark by the tail," he said.
A Wildlife expert helped Marshallsea steer the shark away from Bulcock Beach.
"I know it was dangerous but it almost looked beautiful," Marshallsea told the BBC. "You have got to have respect for a beautiful animal."
According to experts, these type of Dusky sharks of this type can be dangerous to humans. "We don't recommend manhandling sharks but this gentleman did a great job," said an Australian coastguard spokesman.
