After being rushed to a hospital on Tuesday Lamar Odom's condition is reportedly improving. The former NBA-player was found unconscious in a Las Vegas brothel with foam coming from his lips.
Odom has opened his eyes for the first time in four days since losing consciousness at the Love Ranch reports PEOPLE Magazine. On Friday, he also utters his first words since the incident - saying hi to his ex-wife Khloe Kardashian.
"Lamar is conscious and was able to say hi to Khloe" on Friday afternoon. "But his condition remains guarded," the source adds.
Regardless, the few words he has spoken is being taken as a good sign of improvement - giving his family and friends hope.
"This is the most positive stuff we've had since it happened," an insider close to the situation tells PEOPLE. "We've been on pins and needles. We've got a little bit of hope now."
USA Today spoke with Odom's father figure and college basketball coach Jim Harrick who said Odom was showing great signs of coming around.
"She reached down and said 'you know I love you' and he kind of nodded," Harrick said. "Three or four days after being scared to death and fearing the worst, that is a little hope, a little progress. She texted me that (information)" he told USA Today.
What caused the 35-year old father of two to fall into a comatose state is unclear although some employees of the Love Ranch revealed during Odom's three-day stay, they had seen him ingest cocaine and herbal supplements. The herbal supplements are suspected of being "herbal Viagra," a version of Viagra that is not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. The prescription drug is used to treat male erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow to the penis when sexually aroused. The prescription version has been regulated to relax the walls of blood vessels around the penis. However, the herbal version is not regulated. The substances in the herbal drug that imitate the results of Viagra however do not focus on one area of the body, explains Medical Daily. This can lead to problems with dangerously low blood pressure, especially for those with preexisting heart conditions. However, it is unknown whether this is the case for Lamar Odom.
