Variety has reported that David Fincher has been speaking to Brad Pit about doing his new film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
Fincher, director of The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, has long been attached to direct the film but Disney has not green lit the project yet. Disney will be distributing the film and is still working on the budget and figuring out whether they should remake the 1954 Kirk Douglas classic of the same title adapted from the Jules Verne novel.
The script for20,00 Leagues Under the Sea originally written by Contagion scribe Scott Z. Burns is currently being rewritten by Se7en writer Andrew Kevin Walker. Disney refused too comment on the Pitt's involvement but based on the actor's light schedule (he is only attached to the James Gray film The Gray Man, which has been in development for several years), Pitt has no commitments.
The Academy Award nominee recently finished Steve McQueen 's film Twelve Years a Slave, Marc Forster's World War Z, Ridley Scott's The Counselor, and is currently promoting his new film Killing them Softly.
David Fincher's last film was The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and recently he directed a couple of episodes of the Netflix series House of Cards starring Kevin Spacey. He is currently waiting on The Girl who Played with Fire script from Steven Zallian. If Brad Pitt joins the film it would be Fincher and Pitt's fourth collaboration after Se7en, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
