The new smartphone features many different terms and Latinos Post will help break down the terms ahead of its Sept. 21 release.
Screen/Retina Display: The iPhone 5's speculated 4-inch screen has been confirmed. The screen sees an increase of 3.5-inches from the iPhone 4S of 0.5-inches.
The addition of the Retina Display continues from other, yet, latest Apple products. Retina Display applies to devices and monitors that have a very high a resolution and pixel density - approximately 300 or more ppi. Other Apple products with Retina Display include the iPad 3, MacBook Pro notebooks, and the predecessor iPhone 4S.
Resolution: The resolution of the screen is expected to be 1136x640 with 326 ppi (pixels per inch). The resolution indicates the number of dots (pixels) per inch (DPI). The higher the DPI, then the higher the resolution, for example, the iPhone 5 stands at 1136x640 resolution, then there are 727,040 dots per square inch. This also means the device will be capable of displaying 1136 distinctive dots, or pixels, on each of the 640 lines.
GB/RAM: A GB is known as a gigabyte, and one gigabyte hold up to 1,024 megabytes. The term "byte" is actually an abbreviation for "binary term," and is a unit of storage. A RAM, short for Random Access Memory, is the most common type of computer memory found in devices.
One megabyte equals to 1,048,576 bytes. As the iPhone 5 will have an internal storage of 16GB, it will equal to 16,384 megabytes of memory, that'll be a lot of room to store information, especially compared to the iPhone 4S which carried 512 MB RAM.
iOS 6: The iOS is Apple's mobile operating system (OS). The OS is a software platform that helps other programs within the device run as smoothly as possible. The iOS was originally known as the iPhone OS but was renamed in 2010 as the OS was introduced to other products such as iPod Touch, iPad, and Apple TV. The iOS 6 is Apple's sixth update for its mobile OS. The iOS 6 contains additional programs not seen on other rival OS such as from Android which has the Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean.
4G LTE: This is a new component for the iPhone 5. LTE is short for Long Term Evolution and 4G is a wireless communications standard that was developed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), according to Webopedia. 4G LTE was created to increase the speed of its predecessor 3G by 10 times. The higher the speed, the better streaming of multimedia
Webopedia added, "4G technologies are designed to provide [Internet Protocol (IP)]-based voice, data and multimedia streaming at speeds of at least 100 Mbit per second and up to as fast as 1 GBit per second.
Battery Capacity (mAh): Short for Milliampere-hour, mAh indicates how batteries are rated for capacity power. The higher the mAh, then the stronger and healthier the battery of the device. The iPhone 5 has 1140mAh, an increase of 10mAh from the iPhone 4S. Due to the increased mAh, talk time is up to eight hours on 3G; Internet works for up to eight hours on LTE and up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi; up to 10 hours of video playback. The battery can be replaced by Apple service personnel only.
Bluetooth: A short-ranger but for radio and wireless technology aimed at making the collaboration efforts among other Internet devices much simpler. Bluetooth also helps simplify data synchronization.
Lightning: This "intelligent and ultracompact" adapter, according to Apple, can be used to connect to your 30-pin dock port. The iPhone 5 will have a smaller connector compared to its predeccesors with eight-pins compared to 30, and also is compatible with the 5th generation iPod Touch and 7th generation iPod Nano. Lightning cost $29.99.
Price: The device will go for $199 for 16GB. $299 for 32GB, $399 for 64GB when signing a contract with AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon. T-Mobile, as with previous iPhones, will not carry the iPhone 5.
