Siri and Passbook are two of the most prevalent features of the upcoming iOS 6, expected to be unveiled tomorrow at Apple's high profile September 12 event.
Among those features, one feature generally overlooked is iCloud, Apple's online storage, sharing, syncing service. But what new features will the iOS 6 bring for iCloud? Here are a few to review before Apple's keynote tomorrow (Event starts at 10 a.m., Keynote scheduled for 7 p.m.)
Lost Mode
The new lost mode in Find my Phone will enable users to lock any iOS 6 device remotely, ensuring that no one will be able to utilize it while it is lost. The new feature will track the device and email the user updates of any location changes. Lost Mode will also allow users to see locations that the iOS device has visited on a map.
Notes and Reminders
Apple released the new feature with the OS X Mountain Lion, which makes it likely that this feature will get new additions with iOS 6. Reminders will synch up with other mobile devices and Mac PCs but will not support location based reminders.
Notes' display will reflect the stitched leather binding found in iOS.
Mail and iCalender
The email system will now support VIP inboxes and will have scroll bars that are skinnier and translucent. iCalender will no longer have Reminders, since they now have their own app.
Surprisingly, Apple will continue to utilize the Google Maps app in their new iOS rather than their own which they revealed in May. Apple has also seemed to leave iWork alone as there will be no new features. There have been no notable updates since 2009 as iWork does not seem to be of major interest to the tech giant.
Apple is slated to announce the release date for their iOS 6 at a scheduled press conference in which the iPhone 5 will finally be unveiled.
