"Oddworld"-maker CEO Stewart Gilray has clarified Lorne Lanning's previous statement which he says was taken out of context.
Speaking with World's Factory, the CEO of Just Add Water explained:
"Actually that is NOT what he said. I spoke to Lorne afterwards and what he meant when speaking to that guy was that budgets, schedules and perceivable differences would narrow, NOT that the Xbox One performance is improving to align with PS4, that is just physically impossible. The PS4 has MORE COMPUTE units, and faster memory and a whole bunch of things, that would make that physically impossible to happen."
Lanning reportedly implied that the gap between Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's current gen console in terms of performance is narrowing. "'Oddworld Inhabitants' co-founder Lorne Lanning has discussed the differences between developing for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, saying that disparity between the consoles is already disappearing," reports Xbox Achievements.
The game developer previously told the outlet, "I think they've been improving the toolset really fast, improving the development environment and shaving that curve down... I think they're getting comparable."
"I have to say, the PlayStation 4 has been pretty amazing and that's where we've been spending a lot of our time," the game dev added. "But I don't see a huge gap like there used to be. There used to be a significant gap."
Just Add Water is reportedly working on "Oddworld: New n' Tasty" for Sony's current gen game console. According to Xbox Achievements, the game developer is allegedly in talks to bring the said game to Xbox One, noting that it might be part of the ID@Xbox program.
"Should he be successful, Lanning doesn't believe there will be any noticeable differences in performance between the different console versions," says Xbox Achievements.
Will upgrades and software tools amp up the Xbox One to eventually close down the alleged performance gap between the two consoles or is a parallel performance between the two "physically impossible?" Share your thoughts below.
