Metal Gear Solid 5 is one of the more mysterious games slated to come out in 2014, mostly due to the fact that series creator Hideo Kojima and the rest of Konami has purposefully been vague about the game. Well now, fans of the series will at least have an idea of when to expect the prequel to the game, called Ground Zeroes. Konami has announced the new game will be launched in the spring of 2014, according to IGN.

While Ground Zeroes now has a release window, it is unclear if the game will be a downloadable title or a full game dedicated to bringing players up to speed on the mechanics of the game and the story of Big Boss. The game will also serve as a link to explain the events of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, which will most likely be out in 2014 as well.

"The advanced capabilities of the FOX Engine have allowed me to tell the new story in a new way...There will be a significant difference in what The Phantom Pain brings to the series, so we want to ease players into the new open world environment and its potential. As such, Ground Zeroes has been designed to introduce key elements, allowing them to fully benefit from all that the new game will offer," Kojima told IGN.

While the exact release date and format is unknown, it was revealed that the game will consist of one mission where Big Boss infiltrates a Cuban prison camp. This mission has been the subject of many different demos since the game was revealed. The game will be available on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well as the next-gen PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The price tag for the game will vary depending on what platform a player uses. For the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Ground Zeroes will cost $19.99. On the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, however, the content will cost slightly more at $29.99.

Now that players have a launch window to look forward to for Ground Zeroes along with a price, focus should begin to shift more towards The Phantom Pain and where the franchise will go after this prequel. Look out for more news about Ground Zeroes right here.
