A week after he offered a message of solidarity to the Mexican people affected by hurricanes Manuel and Ingrid, Pope Francis has taken concrete actions and has donated 100 thousand dollars to help the victims of the hurricanes which affected 22 states in Mexico.

According to information published by Vanguardia, the Mexican Episcopal Conference (CEM) made it known that the resources will be distributed by the dioceses of the affected regions.

In a press release quoted by the same newspaper, the CEM made reference to Pope Francis, who is "deeply worried for the dramatic consequences of the hurricanes."

"It has done as it has in similar situations in the past, since the beginning of this tragedy it has been close to those who have lost their loved ones, or have been left homeless. The bishops of the Mexican Republic, priests, deacons, consecrated people, seminarians, men and women of good will have answered the call quickly and generously," the document pointed in reference to the Catholic Church's participation in Mexico regarding these events.

According to the most recent official figures, the storms in Mexico left at least 149 people dead, 53 missing and thousands as victims, said the CEM in the same press released quoted by Univisión.

Regarding these circumstances, Mexico's President, Enrique Peña Nieto, cancelled his participation in the 68th UN General Assembly in New York, which was celebrated last week, and cut short a state's visit to Asia for this week.

President Peña Nieto also informed that the state's visit to Singapore scheduled for Oct 4 and 5 will not take place, since his work tour through Asia will be adjusted to visit Indonesia alone as part of Mexico's participation in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.
