The blue-skinned man, otherwise known as "Papa Smurf," died at a Washington hospital due to stroke.
"Papa Smurf," who's real name is Paul Karason, was initially hospitalized for pneumonia. He reportedly suffered from a severe stroke before suffering from pneumonia.
Mr Karason first caused sensation on the Internet and on national television in 2008 due to his skin condition. Unlike other humans, he had a bluish-grey skin tone due to a condition called argyria.
According to Medscape, argyria is a health condition that results from prolonged contact with or ingestion of silver salts. It is characterized by gray to gray-black staining of the skin and mucous membranes produced by silver deposition. Mr Karason was then taking 10 ounces of colloidal silver to treat a severe dermatitis condition. Although he was rendered blue by his home brew, there has been no evidence that he passed away due to argyria.
