Ten people, among them a 7-year-old girl, were murdered Sunday night, Sept. 22, in Loma Blanca, Ciudad Juárez, informed local authorities.
According to first reports from Sin Embargo, the deceased were in a family party after a baseball match when at 22:00 hours a group of hooded men and armed with AK rifles entered the place and attacked the family.
The Mexican newspaper points out that eight of the 10 fatally wounded victims died at the gathering, while two others lost their lives while being transported to the nearest hospital.
So far, the number of attackers and the motives are unknown. However, Ciudad Juárez authorities informed that the Army deployed an operation to identify and locate the killers, who could be hitmen belonging to criminal group La Línea, a cell of the Juárez Cartel, according to Sin Embargo.
Regarding this, Chihuahua governor César Duarte announced that, owing to this incident, there is a special alert on Ciudad Juárez, reported Vanguardia.
Duarte said the event was regrettable and assured that "combat of crime will not stop, and this does not represent an upturn in violence."
The same source reports that the Attorney General of Chihuahua detailed that most of the people killed belonged to a local baseball team. He added that around 22:00 hours on Sunday, Sept. 22, an armed group invaded a home located on kilometer 21 of the Juárez-Porvenir highway, on Raymundo Herrera Street.
The bodies of the victims were found in the yard of the house, close to a plastic table where the trophy the team won in the baseball match rested.
