Floyd Mayweather Jr. said he has a huge advantage over Saul Alvarez in terms of his experience of fighting elite level fighters throughout his career.

The Grand Rapids native Mayweather believes Canelo will struggle to cope up with his class because he hasn't fought any top fighter before.

Mayweather was fast and furious during Friday's open media training, showcasing quickness and power while doing his work on the punching bags, skipping ropes and mitts.

The 36-year-old Mayweather thinks his next opponent won't stand any chance against him simply because he hasn't been tested by good fighters throughout his career. He thinks the majority of Canelo's previous opponents are low-level fighters, who even managed to go the distance with the Mexican.

"He may be predicting a knockout but all you have to do is look at the opponents he's faced,"  Mayweather told Daily Mail UK. "I really don't know too many, but a lot of the guys went the distance with him.

"And we're not just talking about A-fighters but D- and C-fighters. Guys that he should have knocked out in the fourth round, they were able to go into the eighth and ninth rounds even though they were caught with numerous shots."

Future Hall of Famer Shane Mosley and former light middleweight champ Austin Trout fought Canelo before and both matches went the distance, with the Mexican winning via unanimous decision.

Ricky Hatton's brother, Matthew, pushed Canelo to the limit in their 12-round WBC Light Middleweight title fight in 2011, though he lost to the Mexican again via unanimous decision.

"I don't think Ricky Hatton's brother is on the level of a Floyd Mayweather," added Mayweather, who demolished Ricky Hatton in the 10th round of their welterweight championship battle in 2007.

Nevertheless, Mayweather is aware that he's fighting a younger and hungrier fighter in Alvarez and that alone should not be overlooked.

"He's no pushover; I can't overlook him. I just have to go out and execute the game plan and do what I do best. Nothing worries me. I can make adjustments," he said.

"He is one of the best in boxing at this particular time. He's young and strong. He's got guts so we'll see how the fight plays out," Mayweather added.

Mayweather and Alvarez are scheduled to meet each other inside the ring on September 14 as they battle for the WBA, WBC and Ring Magazine Light Middleweight Championships.
