The Spectacular Now
As the summer comes to an end, many independent films have resonated with audiences and critics and have slowly garnered Oscar momentum. Many of the films were surprise hits and surpassed box office expectations. Some even broke records for their respective distributors and directors. This is the third part of a three-part series conducted by Latinos Post of the top independent movies of the summers. Here is a retrospective of the August independent films that could garner awards buzz in the months to come.
Awards season is not supposed to start until late September, but "The Spectacular Now" has set the bar for any other films coming out this year. Living up to its name, the film is a refreshingly glorious character study buoyed by incredible performances and intelligent directing. "The Spectacular Now" is and will continue to be one of the best films of the year and a coming-of-age tale that will endure for years to come.
On Aug. 2, Shailene Woodley's Sundance winner "The Spectacular Now" comes to theaters in limited release.
