Latinos Post looks back at the top 10 films of 2012 and offers a revised list.
This year the Best Picture category sees 9 films competing for the highest honor. After Guild awards one film has emerged as the front-runner. However that film is not nominated for Best Director and that could potentially lead to a surprise winner on Sunday. Previous winners are "The Artist," "The King's Speech," "The Hurt Locker," "Slumdog Millionaire," and "No Country for Old Men."
"Amour" represents the biggest surprise in the Best Picture Category. The Michael Haneke directed film received five nominations for the Academy Awards.
The Best Foreign Film category has always been one of the most unpredictable categories at the Oscars. However, this year looks to be different as one of the films is nominated for Best Picture making it the front-runner to win the category. Previous winners include "A Separation," "In a Better World," "The Secret in Their Eyes," and "Departures."
Jessica Chastain led the Martin Luther King Day box office weekend scoring the number one and two spot with her two films "Mama" and "Zero Dark Thirty." It was the first time since 1997 that a film star led the top two spots. That year Leonardo Dicaprio led with "The Man in the Iron Mask" and "Titanic."
On December 21, the Academy of Motion Picture and Sciences announced that 9 foreign films that were shortlisted for the final rounds for the Oscars.
