The Florida Film Critics have named "12 Years a Slave" the Best Film of the year.
The movie also took home five other awards including Best Actor for Chiwetel Ejiofor and Best Director for Steve McQueen. Meanwhile, Lupita Nyong'o won the Best Supporting Actress award as well as the Breakout Star award; "12 Years a Slave" also won the Best Adapted Screenplay award for John Ridley.
Cate Blanchett won the Best Actress award for "Blue Jasmine" while Jared Leto won the Best Supporting Actor award for "Dallas Buyers Club."
"Gravity" won two awards including Best Visual Effects and Best Cinematography for Emanuel Lubezki.
The award for Best Original Screenplay went to Spike Jonze for "Her" while the French film "Blue is the Warmest Color" won the Best Foreign Film Award.
"Frozen" continued its winning streak for Best Animated film and is now beating out "The Wind Rises" for the most precursor awards. "The Act of Killing," however, continues to win the Best Documentary award and is likely to win the Academy Award come Oscar day.
"The Great Gatsby" took an award for Best Art Direction.
Founded in 1996, the Florida Film critics are an organization of film reviewers from 23 Florida-based publications and websites. The organization strives to recognize outstanding work in film, further the cause of good movies, and maintain the highest level of professionalism among film critics in Florida. Previous winners include "Argo," "The Descendants," "The Social Network," "Up in the Air," "Slumdog Millionaire," "No Country for Old Men," and "The Departed."
