Javier Bardem is in consideration to star in Warner Bro.'s upcoming "Peter Pan."
Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. is offering Spanish actor Javier Bardem the role of the lead villain Blackbeard.
The news comes after the studio announced that British director Joe Wright would direct the film from a Jason Fuchs script. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is speculated that the film will include many of the well known chatracters created by Scottish novelist and playwright J. M. Barrie about a boy who can fly and never ages.
The film will be produced by Greg Berlanti ("Green Lantern," "Haunted") with Sarah Schechter overseeing for the studio.
Bardem is known for a number of villainous roles. He won the Oscar for his turn as Anton Chigurh in "No Country for Old Men." He has also been seen in the villainous role of Silva in "Skyfall," and most recently in "The Counselor." The actor has also been seen in "Biutiful," "Eat Pray Love," "Vicky Christina Barcelona" and "Love in the Time of Cholera." He will next be seen in "A Most Violent Year" with Jessica Chastain and "The Gunman" with Idris Elba.
Warner Bros. is not the only studio developing a "Peter Pan" film. Disney is also developing a prequel to the Peter Pan story called "Peter and the Starcatchers," with Gary Ross ("The Hunger Games") on board to direct, while Sony is developing a film called "Pan," with Channing Tatum set to star and produce with Joe Roth producing.
