President Barack Obama's second inauguration will mark the 57th inauguration of a president of the United States.
Today's inauguration will be the second time President Obama will be given the oath in a roughly 24 hour period. The first oath was done yesterday at 11:55 a.m. EST from the Blue Room of the White House due to the 20th Amendment.
The four-year term of a U.S. president ends on Jan. 20 at noon, as stated in the Constitution, and since the public inauguration events were set for the 21st, the oath had to be administered a day before. Swearing-in a president twice has happened for five previous presidents: Ronald Reagan, Dwight D. Eisenhower, James Monroe, Zachary Taylor, and Woodrow Wilson.
For today's inauguration, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the oath, as he did yesterday and for Obama's first inauguration in 2009.
The inauguration, Inaugural Parade, and subsequent events will be streamed live courtesy of the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC).
"This will truly be America's Inaugural celebration," said PIC Executive Director David Cusack. "Inviting folks from across the country to join us online is one more way we're working to make sure all Americans can share in a moment of history."
