Defending German champion Borussia Dortmund is falling behind in its quest to regain its title. In 17 games, the team is already 12 points behind first place Bayern Munich and three points behind second place Bayer Leverkusen. The squad has a shot at regaining form on Saturday when it takes on 12th place Werder Bremen.

Borussia Dortmund broke out of a tough slump last weekend when it defeated TSG Hoffenheim 3-1. The team got goals from Mario Götze, Kevin Grosskreutz, and Robert Lewandowski. Prior to that win, the team underwent a three game winless skid that included two draws and one loss. Lewandowski leads the squad with 10 goals and Marco Reus and Götze have pitched in offensively with six goals apiece.

Meanwhile Werder Bremen has struggled throughout the year with six wins, four draws, and seven losses for a total of 22 points. The squad is just four points out of a Europa League qualifying slot and will look to turn around its fortunes in the second half of the season. Werder Bremen has only won one of its last five matches. In its last game, the side drew 1-1 against Nurnberg. Nils Petersen scored in the 88th minute to earn the squad one point.

When these teams met on August 24, Borussia Dortmund won 2-1.

Prediction: Dortmund will win again. The team is desperate and will capitalize on the struggling side.
