It appears former "50 Shades of Grey" contenders Ryan Gosling and Shailene Woodley have returned to the forefront of casting rumors. Both actors had previously been among the top contenders for the lead roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.
According to Examiner.com, a recent tweet by "Pitch Perfect" actress Anna Kendrick catapulted Gosling right back in the rumor mill. Kendrick tweeted an inappropriate tweet about the actor while watching his latest film in theaters, "Gangster Squad."
However, the 32-year-old handsome actor isn't the only one that is apparently "back in the game," 21-year-old Shailene Woodley has also been named a top contender. According to Digital Spy, the 'Secret Life' actress "caught the eye" of "50 Shades" author E.L. James.
Whether or not either actor wants the highly coveted job is another story completely. While Gosling is attached to two films that are currently in post-production, Woodley has two upcoming films to work on, including the role of Mary Jane Watson in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2."
The actors will also have to face stiff competition from top contenders Ian Somerhalder ('The Vampire Diaries') and Matt Bomer ('White Collar') in the role of Christian Grey and Alexis Bledel ('Gilmore Girls'), Emilia Clarke ('Game of Thrones') and Felicity Jones ("Like Crazy") in the role of Anastasia Steele.
In the last fan poll conducted by Latinos Post, Bomer again led the polls with 59.73 percent followed by Somerhalder with 24.38 percent. As for the role of Anastasia Steele, Clarke (40.73 percent) dominated the poll, beating out former top pick Bledel (17.33 percent); she was followed closely behind by Jones (31 percent).
The project, which includes producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti and screenwriter Kelly Marcel, will not be making any casting decisions until the script is complete and a director has been chosen. As of mid-January, the film does not have a set release date.
