Wireless charging has been hitting retail shelves with enough momentum to become a household staple over the course of the next few years. A new rumor out of Korea states that Samsung will release a wireless charging module for the the Galaxy S4, arguably the most anticipated Android device of 2013.
The Korean news outlet DDaily (via AndroidAuthority) states that Samsung is developing a wireless charging accessory that will be compatible with the standards of the Wireless Power Consortium. Samsung is reportedly utilizing a resonant magnetic charging coil instead of electromagnetic induction, allowing for charging distances of 3-6 feet. Samsung will be selling backplates with the coils attached seperately, and this is not a feature that will be included standard on all Galaxy S4s.
With charging distances that great, it's hard not to get excited. If the technology catches on, and is affordable, expect smartphone manufacturers to begin making wireless charging the standard in the future.
The Galaxy S4 is still at least a couple months away from being revealed to be the public, but speculation has already created its own version of the Galaxy S4. It is said that the Galaxy S4 will feature a 4.99-inch 1080p Full HD AMOLED display, 2GB RAM, and a 13-megapixel camera. Even more tantalizing is the prospect that the Galaxy S4 could be one of the first devices with Samsung's new Exynos 5 eight-core processor.
Samsung has referred to the Galaxy S4 by name before, and has dropped hints that the Galaxy S4 will be revealed anytime between March and June. The handset would then release around June, and head off the shelves to do battle with the iPhone 5S.
