LG Mobile's popular smartphone, the quad-core Optimus G, will soon be getting an update to Android 4.1. The updated operating system, called Android Jelly Bean, will soon bring features such as boosted, smoother performance, a better keyboard, and Google Now features, such as voice control.

According to androidcommunity.com, LG is rolling out the update in other parts of the world right now, and South Korean customers have started receiving the update this week. There are reports from Brazil, the Czech Republic, and Malaysia that the update has arrived there too.

So it seems it should soon be reaching customers in the United States as well. This is good news to LG customers in the United States. LG's Optimus G was launched in the United States last year with impressive hardware specs, including the quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, a 4.7-inch HD display, and a 13 megapixel camera. But owners who bought the Optimus G have been waiting for the new Android update since last October, when it was announced that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean would be available for download by the end of 2012.

Customers who bought the similar LG Nexus 4 already have Android 4.2, while Optimus G owners have had to deal with an inferior operating system. And while the 4.1 Jelly Bean update isn't quite as new as the Nexus 4's OS, owners of the Optimus G will undoubtedly be happy to have it.

Are you waiting for Jelly Bean for your Optimus G? Check back here for more details as the update rolls out, because sooner or later, it should be hitting your Optimus G smartphone in the United States.
