At CES 2013, AT&T announced U-verse Screen Pack, a $5 per month premium service akin to Netflix, but without the expansive library of content. Films such as Assassin's Code, Charlie's Angels, American Teacher, Lars and the Real Girl, Summer in Genoa, The Wedding Planner, Rudy, Legends of the Fall, Snatch, and Hotel Rwanda will be accessible on smartphones and tablets using a U-verse app, as well as computers and TVs, according to an AllThingsD report.
The company is currently providing a trial version of the service to subscribers, who can order Screen Pack by going to channel 9910 and selecting the option to Add Premiums, found in the TV services tab. If you're curious, move quickly, as the trial ends on January 13.
"Our customers have told us they want a subscription on demand service and we're delivering," says AT&T President of Content and Advertising Sales Jeff Weber. "Screen Pack, along with our On Demand library, gives customers a flexible and more compelling movie experience, where and when they want it."
Screen Pack is clearly still in its infancy and if AT&T can secure enough partners, this streaming-service-that-could might have a shot. However, the service provider may have trouble hooking subscribers if it doesn't find a way to provide fresh content alongside time-tested classics.
