January is the month of the horror film and will showcase the release of such movies as "Mama" and "Hansel and Gretel." However, the first horror movie to launch in the New Year will be the spoof "A Haunted House."

The film, which stars,Marlon Wayans and  is directed by Michael Tiddes, makes its theatrical debut on Jan. 11. In additon to being a part of the horror genre, it is also the first of two spoof movies scheduled to be release in 2013; the other is "Scary Movie 5," which will be released on April 12th. The plot follows newlyweds Malcolm and Kisha who move into a new house unaware that it is haunted. Kisha ends up possessed by one of the spirits in the mansion, and Malcolm uses the help of a priest and ghost hunters to exorcise her. The film is intended to parody the hit series "Paranormal Activity" and films such as "The Devil Inside" and "The Exorcist."

Marlon Wayans' last appearance in film came in 2010 with "Marmaduke." The film not only bombed at the box office, but was also trashed by critics and earned a 9 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, an aggregate reviews website. In 2011 Wayans was set to star as real life stand-up comedian Richard Pryor in a film entitled "Richard Pryor, Is it Something I said." However the film is reportedly still in development. Wayans wrote "A Haunted House" and was also the creator of the "Scary Movie" series.

"A Haunted House" also stars Essence Atkins, Cedric the Entertainer, Nick Swardson and David Koechner. The film opens in 2,200 theaters and will be distributed by Open Road Films.
