"Zero Dark Thirty" continued to make its case as the front-runner of 2012 Best Picture.
The film received the Best Film Award from the Black Film Critics, its 11th such honor of this awards season. No other film has more than seven Best Picture victories and the continued success is making "Zero Dark Thirty" difficult to ignore by the Academy voters. The film had been losing steam to "Argo" which has won the majority of the recent precursors, but the race still leans in "Zero Dark Thirty's" favor. The film was also honored for Best Director and Best Actress.
The BLFC also gave Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" more momentum after a late start in the festivities. Christoph Waltz won his fourth Supporting Actor award and Quentin Tarantino picked up his second award for Best Original Screenplay.
Other surprise winners included "Rise of the Guardians," which won Best Animated film and "The Intouchables" which won Best Foreign Film. "Amour" was widely touted as the top foreign film candidate with 11 precursor victories, but "The Intouchables" now has seven victories and is catching up. On the Animated Film front, the victory is the sixth for "Rise of the Guardians." It has now tied "Frankenweenie" for the second most Animated film victories, but continues to trail "Paranorman," which has 10 precursor wins.
Other winners include Daniel Day-Lewis for Best Lead Actor and Anne Hathaway for Best Supporting Actress. The victories continue to substantiate their respective front-runner positions.
