It has been an emotional season for NBC's Tuesday night drama 'Parenthood.' The eldest Braverman, Adam (Peter Krause) and his wife Kristina (Monica Potter) have had to deal with her cancer, while younger sister Julia (Erika Christensen) and her husband Joel (Sam Jaeger) adjust to their lives as new adoptive parents to Victor (Xolo Mauduena).
In the last episode before the mid-season winter break, entitled "What To My Wondering Eyes," Adam and Kristina experience a health scare that has everyone in the family on edge during the holidays. After some complications following her chemotherapy, Kristina manages to survive a trip to the hospital in time to celebrate the holidays with her family.
Meanwhile, Adam's other sister Sarah (Lauren Graham) is forced to deal with her ruined relationship with Mark (Jason Ritter) and her changing relationship with boss Hank (Ray Romano). The two (Sarah and Hank) sleep together after Mark ends his engagement to Sarah in the previous episode.
In tonight's mid-season premiere episode, youngest Braverman son Crosby (Dax Shepard) and his wife Jasmine (Joy Bryant) will be forced to deal with a family member that lost her job before the holidays and is in desperate need of financial help. Over at the Braverman-Grahams, Julia must mediate a situation with Victor, who wants to meet up with his birth mother after getting an A on a math exam.
After a hard couple of weeks, Kristina surprises Adam with a brand new look and an impromptu night out. According to 'Parenthood' boss Jason Katims, "This episode deals with everything [Kristina shaving her head] suggests. It's about how the world is now seeing her. It's one thing [for you] to know that you have something, but it's another to walk around and have everybody in the world know."
In an interview with TV Line, Katims added, "It actually becomes a very uplifting and moving story between Adam and Kristina. There's a lot of humor in it."
'Parenthood' S4E12, "Keep On Rowing," airs tonight, January 1, 2013 at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
