During the mid-season finale of 'The Mindy Project,' Mindy's (Mindy Kaling) holiday office party was took a sour turn when she discovered that her boyfriend Josh (Tommy Dewey) was two-timing her. But she couldn't stay upset for long, as her fellow OB/GYN Danny (Chris Messina) and her office co-workers joined together to cheer her up.

In the upcoming mid-season opening, entitled "Mindy's Brother," Mindy gets a visit from her younger brother, Rishi (Utkarsh Ambudkar), who's in college. Mindy gets the shock of her life when Rishi announces that he plans to drop out of school to become a rap star.

In the meantime, back in the office Danny and Jeremy (Ed Weeks) try to convince their landlord into lowering their office rent. Like their past projects to change things around in the office, the men of the office may need to call on Mindy to save the day.

As for what lies ahead for the popular freshman comedy sitcom? TV Line reported that the series is getting a new show recurring cast member and is upgrading an actor to series regular when it returns in January. Beth Grant, who plays Nurse Beverly, was promoted to series regular earlier in December while Mary Grill will join the cast in a recurring role, as Mindy's tomboyish yet party girl friend from college, Maggie.

According to TV Line, supporting actors Amanda Setton and Stephen Tobolowsky have left the show and series regular Anna Camp has been downgraded to recurring cast member.

'The Mindy Project' S1E10 airs on January 8, 2013 at 9:30 p.m. EST on FOX.
