Those hoping for the next gen consoles to top the graphics capacity of PC games may be mightily disappointed.
According to a number of reports, id Software co-founder and legendary game developer John Carmack has stated that the PS4 and Xbox 360 will still be aiming to run games at 30 frames per second. The standard for most PC titles is 60 FPS and it was widely believed that the next generation Xbox and Playstation would at least meet this threshold. VG 247's Dave Cook asserts that this will continue to be the gold standard for next gen consoles.
Other reports indicate that the Xbox 720 development kit has been leaked and that the console will come packed with 8GB of RAM, Intel CPUs, and a NVIDIA Graphics card. The dev kit also asserts that the console will feature a 64-bit operating system.
A number of rumors indicate that the systems are slated to launch next holiday season and that the first announcements for the system could be made as early as the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) next summer. Little else is known about either console though it has been confirmed that the Xbox 720 (codenamed "Durango") will come in two different models. One of the versions of the console will be aimed at more casual gamers, while the other will attempt to retain the hardcore gaming community.
