The funeral service for Jenni Rivera has been confirmed.
Last week, the Rivera family confirmed the funeral service will be open to the public, perhaps signifying how the singer was with her fans, with communication on Twitter, the mun2 reality show, and more.
Rivera died along with six others on the morning of Dec. 9 as the plane departed from Monterrey, Mexico at 3:30 a.m. (local time) on her way to Toluca de Lerdo, west of Mexico City. The plane was reported missing about 10 minutes after liftoff. Rivera was set to arrive in Toluca to attend the Mexican edition of The Voice (La Voz Mexico) on Sunday night, where she serves as one of the four judges.
The funeral service will take place Wednesday, Dec. 19, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. PST at the Gibson Amphitheatre at the Universal CityWalk in Los Angeles.
"We will celebrate the graduation into heaven, with honors, of our beloved mother, daughter and sister Jenni Rivera," the family said in a statement as the memorial will be called a "Celestial Graduation."
The confirmation by the family nixes reports that the service were going to be held at the Long Beach Sports Arena, but did predict it will take place on Wednesday.
A separate, private, funeral service will take place afterwards.
The memorial comes as the plane company that owns Rivera's last flight is under investigation by the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
As Latinos Post reported, Starwood Management's Ed Nunez, who also goes under the name "Christian Equino," is accused of having ties with Tijuana's drug cartel Arellano Felix, but Nunez denies such claims.
The DEA confirmed Nunez's connection with Starwood and has subpoenaed all of the company's records, including those with a former Tijuana, Mexico mayor long suspected by US law enforcement as having ties to organized crime, according to the Associated Press.
"The DEA has been investigating me my whole life," said Nunez to the AP in a telephone interview from Mexico City. "They can investigate me all they want and they can investigate Starwood all they want, but they're not going to find anything."
