Looks like noisemakers for movie franchises are now including food in their marketing strategies.
General Mills announced Monday that it has collaborated with Warner Bros. in creating two cereals paying homage to the upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" flick.
If you're on the Man of Steel's team, there's the "Superman Caramel Crunch" for you to munch on. If you're on the Dark Knight's side, help yourself to the "Batman Chocolate Strawberry" variant one of these days, as the products have reportedly hit store shelves across the US just this week.
"The crunchy pieces are shaped like Superman's shield, while the chocolate strawberry ones are modeled after Batman's emblem," Time noted.
Also, the launch comes with hashtags assigned to each cereal variant - #supermancereal and #batmancereal, ComicBookResources said.
"Superman and Batman continue to appeal to the generations of fans that have enjoyed them for decades, as well as new superhero fans experiencing them for the first time," General Mills' Cereal Innovation senior marketing manager Alan Cunningham was quoted as saying from a statement. "We spent extensive time and effort to develop the flavors and look of these cereals, and their packaging, so that they will match the incredible quality of the characters they feature."
For fans of the upcoming DC Comics mashup flick, this news doesn't come as a surprise as it had been pre-confirmed in December by General Mills, DC Comics Movie said. The flavors and promotional photos of the products have also already been bared them, with DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns himself even sharing a snap of the said cereals on his Twitter account.
It can be recalled that, prior to the worldwide release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," 2 ice cream variants inspired by the franchise were also unveiled. The Dark Side was described as "an ultra-dark chocolate ice cream with espresso fudge brownies, cocoa crispies, and white chocolate pearls," while The Light Side was "a bright marshmallow ice cream with homemade crispie clusters, as well as a smattering of handmade cocoa crispies," according to Vulture.
Will we see more movie-themed food later this year as more tentpole productions get released?
Still on "Batman vs. Superman" merchandise, rumors have it that the movie's line of toys may reveal clues to the film's plot.
Warning: potential spoilers ahead. Stop reading right now if you don't want any of them.
"A new three-pack of figures shows Lex Luthor alongside Superman and Batman, and the billionaire is donning a mechanized suit with tinges of green that look a lot like Kryptonite," IGN said. "The packaging calls him Mega-Armored Lex Luthor, and he's got a blaster arm and Luthor logo to go with it."
Now, isn't that an interesting twist or what?
