Video game characters have been used to promote many things over the years, mostly video game-related stuff such as food products or toys.
However, according to Game Spot, high fashion clothing and bag designer Louis Vuitton has recently created ads featuring the hero of the "Final Fantasy XIII" series, Lightning.
The ad is a collaboration between Louis Vuitton Art Director Nicolas Ghesquiere and Square Enix's Tetsuya Normura, along with his visual effects team at Visual Works studios.
Dual Shockers reports that the collaboration of the two giants aims to promote Louis Vuitton's new "Series 4" line, which is the French designer's Spring - Summer 2016 collection. "Series 4" hopes to build upon the success of this year's Autumn - Winter 2015 or "Series 3" line.
Fans of the "Final Fantasy" series are questioning the selection of Lightning as the model for the series of ads, as there are a lot more popular female characters in the "Final Fantasy" series.
This is mainly due to the fact that Lightning has only ranked generally in the middle of popularity polls in the United States. However, in Japan, the character has garnered a fandom, even winning a 2013 character popularity poll for her appearance in "Final Fantasy XIII - Lightning Returns."
Director of several games in the "Final Fantasy" series Motomu Toriyama stated that Lightning is a cold and calculating character capable of handling any situation that befalls her. Toriyama also credits Lightning as being the first "true" main female protagonist in the "Final Fantasy" series.
Although there is no word how exactly the decision on Lightning as spokesmodel was made, this isn't the first time that the character has been used to promote high fashion.
Back in 2012, Lighting and several of her "Final Fantasy XIII - 2" castmates where used by the Italian Fashion Designer Prada to promote their line of clothing and bags.
However, the presentation of that portfolio showed only Men's clothes, and Lightning was shown wearing several pieces of apparel that were designed for men. This time for Louis Vuitton, she is sporting women's clothing.
If it is now a trend for fashion designers to use video game characters to model their clothes, then they have a whole plethora of characters to use.
