The release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has been a glaring success, thanks to months of extensive marketing campaign and a strong fan base. The overwhelming result from the film makes it a no-brainer to integrate it in a game especially on "Star Wars: Battlefront," which was released just a month before "The Force Awakens" hit theaters.
However, the opposite is exactly what is in the mind of Electronic Arts (EA).
In the official EA Star Wars Twitter page, a fan asked if episode seven or "The Force Awakens" will be included in any Downloadable Content (DLC) for "Star Wars: Battlefront." However, to the disappointment of many, the video game developer and publisher replied to the question, saying that its team is "focusing on the original trilogy for this release of Star Wars Battlefront."
Hence, the message implies that there will be no DLCs not only on "The Force Awakens" but also on the prequels or other films in the series of the "Star Wars" franchise.
This move, however, is quite surprising for fans of the action-shooter video game who expected that EA will maximize the hype created by the recent "Star Wars" film.
As previously reported in Latinos Post, EA has offered a Double Score weekend for "Battlefront" gamers in celebration of the release of "The Force Awakens" movie. The two-day promo gave players the opportunity to increase their ranks quicker and unlock Star Cards and Emotes.
Before that, a DLC titled "Battle of Jakku" was also launched for the game. The content of the said DLC, which was formed with a tie-in with the "The Force Awakens", took place 29 years after the events in the movie. It also featured the new map named "Jakku" as well as a new 40-player mode called "Turning Point."
Given that "Star Wars: Battlefront" got mixed reactions from critics and gamers while also not performing well financially, banking on the "The Force Awakens" and continuing what it has already started with the "Double Score" weekend and "Battle of Jakku" DLC seemed to be the right move for EA.
Nonetheless, with EA emphasizing that it will be focusing on the original trilogy of "Star Wars" for "Battlefront," the game developer and publisher might be looking into developing new titles based on the new "Star Wars" films especially with the fact that it has the rights to make it happen.
"Star Wars: Battlefront" is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
