For a player that the Boston Celtics had been happy to land in the offseason, David Lee now finds himself possibly moving yet again.
The veteran Lee found himself in an uncanny situation, leaving the Golden State Warriors barely a year after winning an NBA title.
Seeing however that Lee was no longer being utilized in the manner that he had hoped for, the decision to move the 32-year-old center/forward was seen more as something to appease his desire for more minutes and hence the move to the Boston Celtics.
The Celtics indeed seemed like a great fit, a team that would surely benefit from his experience which could rub off on the young frontline of the Celts.
But it seems that such hasn’t happened so far with Lee who has just started three times so far this season as pointed out via the Bleacher Report.
More to that, he has been averaging only 18.4 minutes and has barely been a factor for head coach Brad Stevens. So with that said it doesn’t really come as a surprise that his name has been added to the lists of NBA players who may end up being traded soon.
One thing that Lee carries as well is a hefty price tag. He is set to make $15.4 million for this season, obviously the Celtics highest paid player for the moment. And seeing that he has not really been much of a factor, it all the more makes sense to move him for someone of equal or lesser value that the Celitcs can add to their mix.
One name that has been closely linked is Dwight Howard of the Houston Rockets. Howard’s name suddenly made headlines with word that the all-star center was allegedly unhappy in Houston since he was allegedly having a hard time co-existing with resident star James Harden.
Word about that is of course nothing new. Since leaving the Orlando Magic where he was top dog, Howard has struggled with the teams he move onto.
He failed to make an impact with the Los Angeles Lakers and the same holds true now for the Rockets.
Would the Celtics be different?
Well right now, there are not big stars in the mix so it could be possible. There is a scenario that could see Howard end up in Boston but it may take more than David Lee to get it done.
As Kevin Pelton shares via ESPN, adding Tyler Zeller and maybe a future first rounder could gain the interest of the Rockets. So would it be enough for the Rockets to agree to?
Lee and Howard are miles apart when it comes to talent but then again it could be possible.
