Max Holloway is on an eight-fight winning streak but he knows that such is nothing if he wants to face Conor McGregor once again. Holloway was another fighter who competed at UFC 194, the same card where Conor McGregor finished off Jose Aldo in just 13-seconds per the Bleacher Report. For his part, he took on Jeremy Stephens who he defeated via unanimous decision.
From the looks of it, that win will hardly be enough to catapult him into possible contention against “The Notorious” and he is apparently aware of it.
So with that in mind, Holloway will likely embark on a longer route and hopefully gain the proper notice for a possible rematch with the same man who dealt him his last loss back in 2013.
That loss was way back in 2013 where Holloway lost via unanimous decision to McGregor. Despite the setback, Holloway gained the distinction of being the only fighter to take McGregor to the scorecards.
Other than that, it may take something more to get the attention of Dana White and the UFC to seriously get him in line for a possible title shot against McGregor.
Frankie Edgar is the looming as the next opponent for McGregor for the featherweight title with Aldo probably the other one in the mix.
Holloway is aware of it and that is perhaps the reason why he is decided to approach it differently. Rather than set his sights on the champion, he is targeting the contenders – Edgar and Aldo. Holloway was speaking with Submission Radio on the matter and said that he leaves it all in the hands of the UFC as far as who fights next.
Regardless of who he may face, Holloway is ready. He feels he can match up well with Edgar or Aldo, both of whom he referred to as individuals who love to fight.
“They want a big fight inside of UFC Hawaii, you know, there's only two fights or three fights. It's going to be Conor vs. Holloway, Edgar vs. Holloway or Aldo vs. Holloway. That's the only three fights that are big enough, I think, that we can bring down to Hawaii and do it,” says Holloway via MMAMania.com.
Right now it is touch and go for Holloway. He will have to see who McGregor will face next and probably settle for the name that would be left out.
As mentioned earlier, Edgar is looming to be the top candidate to face McGregor in 2016 despite many believing that Aldo should be given an immediate rematch.
That decision lies in the hands of the UFC folks of course. If it does turn out to be a McGregor vs. Edgar showdown, Holloway may likely end up facing Aldo if the Brazilian will oblige.
