"The Big Bang Theory" decides to end the year with a bang by having Sheldon and Amy finally do the Marvin Gaye and get it on.
In the season finale, "The Opening Night Excitation," Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and Amy Farrah-Fowler (Mayim Bialik) agreed to engage in coitus to consummate their 5-year relationship. This event has previously been teased to fans a few weeks ago and apparently got a positive reception. As such, the anticipation for the finale ran high, with many anticipating the long-awaited intimate encounter in the history of ShAmy.
The episode begins with Sheldon brainstorming on the perfect gift for Amy's birthday, which coincidentally happens on the day of the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opening night. He had three options, which he presented to Penny and Bernadette in the hopes of getting their input, as noted by Entertainment Weekly:
"1. A chance for her to play the harp with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He has no idea if this is even a thing, but it sounds good."
"2. An all-expenses paid trip to the Wisconsin Wool and Sheep Festival. She would be going alone."
"3. Having sex with Amy."
Both ladies were so shocked about option number three that Penny actually dropped her glass after his declaration, which was spurred by Professor Proton's (Arthur Jeffries) appearance in Sheldon's dream.
After confirming to himself that he will indeed sleep with Amy on her birthday, he called his girlfriend to say his Obi-Wan Kenobi-clad dream advisor urged him to be with her on her birthday, prompting Amy to ask whether he actually planned not to be with her.
Afterwards, Bernadette and Penny took it upon themselves to help Amy prepare for the big day by convincing her to get a bikini wax. They eventually had to tell her what's really happening to pull off the mission, to Amy's delight.
Meanwhile, Sheldon became worried about how he will make the night special as it will be his first time.
"'Sheldon, if you're with the right person it will be OK," Professor Proton encouraged him, as quoted by MailOnline.
His 2 female friends also gave him a hand by telling him what women liked.
"Indeed, Sheldon - wearing a smart shirt and jacket and bringing flowers - seemed far less nervous than Amy when he finally arrived at her apartment on the big night," the publication observed.
Needless to say, they finally did the deed and were seen wearing a satisfied smile after the encounter "hours later."
The episode aired 8 p.m. ET on CBS Thursday. What do you think about the finale?
