A common feature that most mobile phone uses would more likely look forward to in 2016 is the kind of display smartphones will be sporting.
If the latest reports are true, leading mobile phone brands may be holding out on that feature for now and unveil phones using QHD screens.
Among the companies that may likely forego 4K HD displays for now are Samsung and LG.
Now these are companies who are among the top mobile phone market players and while the 4K display is indeed something worth looking forward to, foregoing it for now is unlikely to hinder their smartphone sales for 2016.
What is the real reason behind the shunning of the display feature for now? Well, there are some concerns and Android Authority outlined some of them.
- Power consumption issues. With high resolution features, it is likely that the 4K display may result in faster drains and most likely overheating.
- Purpose of use. New technology will likely take time to maximize and using the advanced display may not necessarily put it efficiently to good use.
- Lack of Supply. Being a new feature, the supply of parts could become a problem in the early goings. The last thing that Samsung and/or LG would want is to suffer backlogs so it may be best not to risk it for now.
- High prerequisite support. To enjoy the perks of 4K display, 4K content is the way to go. But are current carriers and networks equipped with the proper infrastructure to provide support for such?
The detailed reasons above to come with valid points and it somehow calls to mind the same route that Apple may reportedly be following.
This has to do with reports that Apple may be foregoing AMOLED display features for its iPhone 7 though the manner of reasoning made by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is different since it had to do more with the business perspective.
Regardless, it would not be surprising if the aforementioned issues would be the same as well if the technical aspect is to be discussed.
Again, ditching the 4K display does seem like a disappointment for the ones anticipating it but the reality of it all is why offer something that will be practically useless.
Preparation for the future? If so, there is no telling if the current specs that Samsung and LG models coming out in 2016 will be enough to support it.
With that in mind, it could turn out that by the time Samsung and LG are ready to unveil models sporting the 4K HD displays, the specs of the models in tow will likely provide the necessary support for a more efficient handset.
