Fans of '50 Shades of Grey' may be rooting for actors Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder to take up the lead roll of Christian Grey but recent casting rumors have said the two may be too old to take the part. However, an article published in Mr. Porter's The Journal contends that 'Gossip Girl' actor Chace Crawford is the man for the job.
According to The Journal, "there has also been serious speculation he's going to play sadistic businessman Christian Grey in the film adaptation of the blockbuster erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey." The part would be fitting for Crawford, who's 27 just like coveted character, and would work well with his future plans.
"I want to do something really shocking," Crawford told his interviewer. "I know I'm capable of it. The right thing just has to come up."
While Crawford may be up for the role, he hasn't received as wide support from fans as other actors have. In the latest Latinos Post fan poll, the Texas native ranked seventh among 10 Christian Grey contenders with a measly 1.36 percent of the votes. Apart from Bomer and Somerhalder, Crawford also faces stiff competition in actors Henry Cavill ('Man of Steel'), Alexander Skarsgard ('True Blood') and Stephen Amell ('Arrow').
Casting speculations over who will play the coveted male lead have been working in overdrive the past few weeks. '50 Shades of Grey' author E.L. James has told reporters in the past that casting decisions will take some time. The film, which is being produced by Universal Pictures and Focus Films, counts on producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti and screenwriter Kelly Marcel as part of its production team.
The film, which is based on James' bestselling erotic thriller by the same name, does not have a theatrical release date set yet.
