The League of Nations, a new faction that took shape last week, does offer perhaps the leading heels in the WWE to date. The question now is whether there would be more WWE stars joining the fray.
Right now, the official members of the Sheamus-led faction include Rusev, United States champion Alberto Del Rio and King Barrett. However, a new member could be forthcoming if the recent Twitter exchange between WWE Intercontinental champion Kevin Owens and WWE heavyweight champion Sheamus is any indication, as pointed out via PWMania.
Owens has been known for his wisecracks, but this time, he took aim at the reigning WWE champion for some errors on his tweets, which were only made big by the Intercontinental champion.
From the way the exchange went, Sheamus seemed to be fine with the responses from Owens. In fact, he even complimented him at one point.
There was, however, an interesting twist at one point---the part in which Sheamus said that “Your title will be in the League of Nations sooner or later”.
With the League of Nations expected to get it on with the members of Reigns’ own stable (called “The Family), it isn’t difficult to figure out that there could be underlying storylines for the protagonists involved.
Dean Ambrose, the no. 1 contender to Owens’ WWE Intercontinental title, is on the other side and should be enough reason to include the Canadian on Sheamus’ team. Then again, Owens doesn’t have to be in a stable to defend his title as he can do it independently.
This storyline should be appended soon, with Owens back on WWE Raw this Monday, as mentioned by Wrestling Inc.
Owens has never been a good team player, as seen in the past. In fact, a look at the League of Nations will show someone he had a minor conflict with before – Rusev.
That storyline never clicked, so it may seem a bit odd to see both of them in one team.
The creative team could of course change that. Still, Owens being a team player could be something new or his insertion could cause more internal problems to Sheamus and company than good.
Furthermore, Sheamus doesn’t seem at ease with the idea of having Owens around.
Apparently, his brash talk is one reason for this, so it makes one wonder how Sheamus will be able to snag the title away from him. Could Rusev be up for a title run or maybe even King Barrett?
