Samsung has released a teaser trailer prompting fans to get ready for a major announcement at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The chances are slim, but Samsung might even show off the Galaxy S4 at CES 2013.
Previous Galaxy S4 release date rumors have pointed to an April unveiling, but it has been made clear that Samsung would like to shoot for an earlier release for its next flagship phone in order to better compete with Apple. CES 2013 will take place from Jan. 8-11.
"Looking to the first half of 2013, we see evidence of Samsung likely accelerating the release of the Galaxy S IV - compared with May (this year) for the Galaxy S III," said UBS analyst Nicolas Gaudois in the Reuters report. "We believe preparations for volume manufacturing of unbreakable plastic substrate displays continue. All in all, we could see a strong products push in the high-end in the first half, followed by other releases."
Apple is rumored to be moving to a six-month update cycle for the iPhone, meaning the iPhone 5S would be coming out before summer 2013.
An earlier rumor did refer to a Galaxy S4 unveiling at CES 2013, but we previously stated that this scenario was unlikely. Still, given how aggressive Samsung has been in 2012 with marketing, product launches, and software updates, it's not completely out of the question.
Samsung could also be referring to flexible displays. Samsung has been working on flexible displays for quite some time now, and the South Korean company is expected to be the first to introduce smartphones with flexible displays sometime in 2013.
Do you think Samsung would introduce the Galaxy S4 as early as January 2013? And would a smartphone with a flexible display appeal to you?
