Instagram has announced that it will no longer share photo integration with Twitter, tallying yet another casualty in the battle between the social media juggernauts. Meanwhile, rumors suggest that Twitter is working on camera filters for its own app.
This morning, users began experiencing cropping issues with their Instagram images on Twitter. An official blog post noted that "this is due to Insagram disabling its Twitter cards integration, and as a result, photos are being displayed using a pre-cards experience. So, when users click on Tweets with an Instagram link, photos appear cropped."
A later update definitively pronounced that ""Instagram has disabled photo integration with Twitter. As a result, photos are no longer appearing in Tweets or user photo galleries. While tweeting links to Instagram photos is still possible, you can no longer view the photos on Twitter, as was previously the case."
Although Instagram is a subsidiary of Twitter rival Facebook, company co-founder Kevin Systrom assures the public that "This is not a case of Facebook putting some sort of policy on Instagram. This is not a consequence of us getting acquired. This is a consequence of us doing the best thing for our business at this time."
AllThingsD reports that Twitter looks to compete with Instagram's photo-sharing options with its a suite of photo filters currently in development for smart devices. Reportedly, the company looks to release the update "in time for the holiday season."
Instagram is also expanding its set of features with an all new profile page that features recently shared photos.
