The Android 6.0 Marshmallow rollout continues with Sony seemingly the next one in line to make an aggressive push for some of the mobile phones and tablets on their end.
Among the devices rumored to be getting the latest Android OS are the following:
1. Sony Z5
2. Sony Z5 Premium
3. Sony C4
4. Sony M4 Aqua
5. Sony Z5 Ultra
6. Sony Z2 Tablet
7. Sony Z2
8. Sony Z3+
9. Sony Z4 Tablet (or Z3 Tablet Compact)
Neurogadget reported that the Sony Z3 and Z3 compact got a Sony concept build for Android 6.0 Marshmallow back last month, which was handed only to the ones who registered for beta testing.
Seeing that the rollout is being done over-the-air, there is no telling how soon the latest Android OS will be available for download. Do take note that the said beta patch is limited to the ones in select European countries.
So how about the other devices not yet scheduled to get the Android 6.0 M?
Like other devices who may have to wait a bit if one is headed their way, the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will be offered instead. The Sony models reportedly getting this version, according to XperiaSony, include:
1. Sony Xperia Z3
2. Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
3. Sony Z3 Tablet
Other Sony devices such as the Sony Xperia C5 Ultra, Z4 Tablet, C4, M5 will forego the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update and jump immediately to Android 6.0 M via the usual OTA update.
With regards to scheduling, there is still no word for now on when the rollouts will begin and which model will be getting the Android bump first.
However, like other companies rolling out the latest available Android update, it will most likely be the newer models getting the Android bump first and move down incrementally to the lower devices thereafter.
There is a fair chance that Sony’s Z5, Z5 Compact and Z5 Premium will be the first in line to get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update which could probably commence as early as this month.
Scheduling of releases will also depend on the mobile carrier where the device is hooked on to. Hence, it would be best to keep tabs of your phone settings and check for the updates regularly.
In the event that the Android bump is already available, make sure you have a stable WiFi connection and also make sure your device is at least 50% charged to make sure you properly download the patch and apply it properly.
