Tablets are versatile machines. Whether you use them to play games, read e-books, stay connected to social networks, or simply check your Gmail account, there's an app out there suited for those exact purposes. In July, Google launched the Google Nexus 7. Let's take a look at a few worthwhile apps.
Curiosity
Developed by the well known game developer Peter Molyneux, whose resume includes Populous, Black & White, and Fable, this app asks players to tap away at a cube to reach the center, where a "life changing" mystery lies in wait. Dubbed a social experiment, the game requires every player to work together and remove hundreds and thousands of tiny blocks from the virtual shape.
Minecraft Pocket Edition
Minecraft is something of a phenomenon. Since the initial release of its beta on the PC, it has been fascinating to observe the monuments of creativity that have emerged from the game's sandbox of construction tools. In fact, Minecraft has spurred an entirely new genre of releases, hoping to grab onto the coattails of its massively profitable inspiration. Every gamer owes it to themselves to give Minecraft a shot.
Draw Something
The concept behind Draw Something is infectiously simple. One player is given a word to communicate to their friend, and must use their touch screen to draw an image. The other player uses this image to guess the original word. Minimalistic, but addictive, Draw Something will keep you glued to your Nexus 7, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the next horribly conceived picture from your friends.
Angry Birds Star Wars
At this point, Angry Birds is a known quantity, but developer Rovio has added a novel twist to the flourishing franchise: they infused Star Wars into the formula. The official synopsis reads, "Join an epic adventure with the Angry Birds in the legendary Star WarsTM universe! Use the Force, wield your lightsaber, and blast away Pigtroopers on an intergalactic journey from the deserts of Tatooine to the depths of the Pig Star -- where you'll face off against the terrifying Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Pigs! Can you become a Jedi Master and restore freedom to the galaxy?"
