There are rumors that “Red Dead Redemption 2” will release late in 2016. The title might become available earlier than “Grand Theft Auto 6.”

In an official blog site, Rockstar Games stated that they are glad to see that fans are very excited about the “Red Dead” series, even after five years since “Red Dead Redemption” was released.

“As we've mentioned when asked in the past about new games in other series such as 'Red Dead Redemption,' 'Bully' and 'L.A. Noire,' we don't always rush to make sequels, but that does not mean we won't get to them eventually. We have so many games we want to make and the issue is always one of bandwidth and timing." The game developer wrote.

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take Two Interactive, also said that they are not in a rush to release the sequel. They are focused in providing great quality games for players, instead of featuring sequels that are not thoroughly checked for quality. If they opt to keep releasing more games without putting emphasis on quality, they might only bulk up their release schedule, which will disappoint consumers. Their selective approach was based on the premise that consumers want better, not more, games, and they have experienced much success by using the same method through the years, Gamespot reported.

Zelnick added that they have launched one new successful franchise each year. As much as they would like for all their franchises to become permanent, he said that some will eventually lose steam, while others will be available constantly. It was the second time that Zelnick talked about “Red Dead Redemption” as a permanent franchise, which strongly indicates that a sequel is in the works. Rockstar senior developer Feinstein actually told Express that they are currently developing the game.

Zelnick explained that “GTA” and “Red Dead” are not annualized because they plan to feature a number of great franchises and new intellectual properties that will have an economic impact together, creating an annualized business without the drawbacks of an annualized business. Overall, they intend to maintain the quality of their titles which made these popular among fans in the first place, Gamespot wrote.

Franchise Herald stated that the game developer has not yet officially announced a release date, but fans are optimistic that “Red Dead Redemption 2” might release late in 2016 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. More updates and details on “Red Dead 2” are expected in the following months.
