One Direction has a new member and (he or she?) it has more social media following than you.
The "1D Potato" has made its debut in the entertainment industry the night One Direction members Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne paid a visit at the "Jimmy Limmel Live!" on Thursday evening. "We have some very exciting news for One Direction fans tonight. We are going to do something no band has ever done before, no band has ever had before. We are going to welcome a new member to the One Direction family," the host announced to the studio guests, as per E! Online.
The quirky "reveal" was done eight months since Zayn Malik left the popular British boyband.
Kimmel finally divulged the much-anticipated announcement, as per E! Online: "That new member is this potato. This is a Russet potato raised in a field among many others. We bought it at Ralph's. It cost 58 cents. It's a very ordinary, some might say humble, vegetable, but what this potato does not know is it is about to become the most famous potato in the world." He humorously furthered: "Members of the paparazzi will try to take pictures of it. Young girls will shriek when they see it. By this time tomorrow, this potato...might even be dating Ariana Grande"
The talk show host shared that the now infamous potato was purchased at Ralph's and was bought for 58 cents. "It's a very ordinary, some might say humble, vegetable, but what this potato does not know is it is about to become the most famous potato in the world," he comically prophesied as per MTV.
His prediction though was a self-fulfilling one -- as soon as a social media account was established for the "1D Potato" it gained a massive following of 100,000 accounts on Instagram and 13,000 on Twitter in less than 24 hours. Network-wise, the "humble vegetable" is seen posing with the likes of stars such as The Boss' Melissa McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone.
Meanwhile, the 1D Potato has already publicly announced itself as the band's resident drummer through a photo captioned: "My whole life potatoes have been laughing at me, telling me I would never drum for @OneDirection. Live your dreams kids! Who's laughing now?"
The 1D potato's debut photo on the British boybands official Instagram account now has more than 532,000 likes.
