To this day, there are still a lot of UFC fans reeling from that monumental upset that Ronda Rousey suffered at the hands of Holly Holm at UFC 193 over in Melbourne, Australia.
Rousey was a hands-down favorite over Holm heading into the fight, but there was really something off considering there wasn’t much noise or trash-talk before the two female fighters squared off.
Rousey tried to spice up things by charging with a focused and quiet Holm during the weigh-in, something that was seemingly sparked by nothing with Rousey apparently going as far as singling out how Holm inadvertently hitting her in the face when she struck a fighting stance.
It radiated all the way to the start of the match with Rousey refusing to touch gloves as a gesture of sportsmanship, all of which was seemingly her way of trying to get in the mind of her challenger.
And then the thing that many had feared most happened, Holm unleashing her masterful fight plan and leading to a shock conquest over the erstwhile undefeated UFC Women’s champion.
It was something that shocked the world, something that no one expected. Holm was a virtual unknown that came out of the ranks to face the seemingly unbeatable champion. But the silent road was as peculiar as one would feel and Rousey discovered it the hard way.
As it stands, there may be a lot of things jarring the UFC moving forward. The loss means that Dana White will most likely prioritize a rematch between the two and it may likely happen at UFC 200 on July 2016.
The loss has dragged Rousey back to earth after a seemingly fairytale rise that has seen her jab back at detractors, most especially Floyd Mayweather Jr. on various issues.
This also means that Rousey will have to climb back to the ranks with the reeling loss, dissipating as well all hope of seeing her match up against Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino next.
That fight could still be possible, but apparently all plans for that have been moved back and depending if Rousey can still recover from the shock loss to the former boxer that now holds the UFC Women’s bantamweight title.
It also begs to ask if Rousey’s previous plans would be scathed. That includes the vacation she had planned after UFC 193 as well as her retirement plans two years from now. Will all these be affected now?
Then there is the question of her priorities. Seeing that she has been keeping herself busy going to and from the UFC and Hollywood, will she be cutting her film commitments after being brought back down to earth?
It was a pretty hard fall for Rousey and surely her pride and ego have been hurt severely. How she gets up from this setback is anyone’s guess though she does promise to bounce back from this shocking debacle.
One thing that this experience proves is that Rousey is human and can be beaten after all.
