With news of soon-to-be former WWE heavyweight champion Seth Rollins out of commission for at least the next six months, a lot of WWE stars may be called upon to step up and the returning Hispanic star Alberto Del Rio will certainly be one of them.
For those who are unaware, Del Rio made a surprise return at WWE Hell in a Cell. He was the surprise challenger to the vacation-bound John Cena’s United State title and has since been quiet in WWE appearances.
Del Rio has of course made a living as a heel wrestler before he left in 2014 due to a racial slur issue so his return had him initially branded as such.
But the fact is that Del Rio has not really shown the typical heel wrestler everyone has known him to be and the time to perhaps to step up to that could be as early as now.
He carries an interesting angle with Zeb Colter by his side. Colter is of course known to many as the one associated with Jack Swagger and the change in color seems to be the main angle currently brewing.
And seeing how Swagger questioned the sudden turn of Colter, the likely scenario of seeing a developing feud between Swagger and Del Rio has started.
Such remains you shades of how John Cena and Rusev fought it out representing their countries though the heel-turn of Colter seems to be the curious case in this one.
It is likely that the two will face off at WWE Survivor Series with presumably the United States title on the line.
Though it is not a major story angle, the title is unlikely to change hands. With that said it could be the breakout the Del Rio is expected to do as he turns to full heel.
Right now, Del Rio does look like a heel but not yet in the same way as before. With Rollins out and the WWE making it known that they want to spruce up the Latin base, the coming pay-per-view should be the perfect setting to unleash the Del Rio everyone knows.
But is Swagger the right guy for the job? Seeing that it involves Colter could be the reason for such, not to mention that it seems to be a USA vs. Mexico thing as well. And on that note, it could be the groundwork for Cena’s expected return in December as well.
