Today, the Skyrim's Dragonborn DLC was released on Xbox Live, soon to be followed by the long-delayed Playstation 3 version alongside a PC launch 'early next year'.
Dragonborn costs 1600 Microsoft Points on the Xbox Live Marketplace, and introduces dragon mounts to the franchise, a much sought after feature among fans since Skyrim's announcement. New armors include Nordic, Stalhrim, Chitin, and Bonemold. Players will now be able to explore Raven Rock, Telvanni Tower, Miraak Temple, and Castle Karstaag.
Playstation 3 owners, who bore the brunt of technical issues compared to the Xbox 360 and PC releases of the game, have been restricted from the prior Dawnguard or Hearthfire DLC packs due to technical difficulties. Aside from debilitating framerate issues that plague the main game, Sony loyalists have been waiting indefinitely for any signs of life from Bethesda on the DLC front.
Dawnguard sired players into the battle between humanity and vampirisim, and grants the freedom to chose an allegiance. Although the DLC directs players through many of the same environments regardless of which side is chosen, the storyline, mission structure, and suite of abilities made available to the player change based on their decision. Hearthfire is less meaty than Dawnguard, but adds the novel option to build houses and customize their outlay, giving the player even further tools to personalize their play though. So far, there has been no word as to whether or not either Dawnguard or Hearthfire will launch with Dragonborn in 2013.
Yet, developer Bethesda's recent blog post teases, "And we're still not done - we look forward to sharing more Skyrim news next year!" Keep faith Dovahkiin, there is hope yet.
