News for the long-awaited sequel to the sci-fi film "Pacific Rim" has been slow to non-existent as of late.
However, if director Guillermo Del Toro had his way, this would change in a big way. It seems that the sequel is a pet project of the director, and he has taken it upon himself to update the fans about the projected movie.
According to Del Toro's twitter account, the director has already submitted a script and a projected budget to the studio, but hasn't heard back from anyone as of yet. The director also says that he will update the fans as soon as an update is available. Otherwise, fans will continue to hear rants from the director.
Before this news from Del Toro, news was amazingly negative surrounding the film as Legendary Pictures removed the film from its original release date in 2017. However, Gamespot is now reporting the studio has released a statement saying the main reason why they removed the film from the schedule is to allow the creative team more time to continue the efforts to exceed the experience given in the first film.
The removal of the film from the schedule was the first setback to the film as it seemed that it was certain that a sequel would be made. Cinemablend reported that Del Toro had several meetings with executives from Legendary Pictures stating that the studio was very interested in what the director had envisioned for "Pacific Rim 2."
Although the film started out slowly, with critics and fans citing its slow pace for an action movie as well as sloppy story and subplots, the movie actually ended up making US$411 million worldwide. Apparently, the film racked up massive numbers in China and other Asian countries. These numbers were positive enough for Legendary Pictures to give the green light for the sequel.
Not much is currently known about the sequel and none of the actors have been confirmed to be returning to their characters for another film. Even if fans do not know many facts about the film, it is certain that the director will continue to update these fans as to how the film is actually doing.
